The film is shown taking place in real time, as the hour-and-a-half-long film counts down the last 90 minutes before the first episode of “Saturday Night Live” (then called Saturday Night Live) airs. We’re invited to witness and behind the scenes as we step into the chaos of the Hollywood version of the magical beginning of this legendary TV show, longtime SNL fans will see the many, many references to SNL’s most famous and beloved sketches. , most of whom would not be present and ready for the first show. The pace and action are hectic as disaster follows disaster as the hundreds of little cogs required to make something like SNL try to coalesce into some form that will work. The character actors cast to resemble the original cast are accurate and do a really great job of truly inhabiting what is undoubtedly a huge challenge.

They are a lot of fun to watch and carry most of the film with a great sense of humor. But I’m afraid that Lorne Michaels is either misspelled or poorly written, because as our main target in this whirlwind of annoyingly clumsy administration, he’s mostly been an amateurish and irritating little thing that we keep waiting and waiting to see how he does. He can barely put his vision of the show into bland human terms and wanders from fire to fire, never quite putting anyone out and promptly forgetting about them as he moves on to the next one. When the first show gets picked up, it’s mostly because everyone else got by without it and made it work in spite of it. I just irrationally hate his face and that little look he gets when something goes wrong; it’s like an upset, angry baby who senses something is wrong.
A visit from the ghost of SNL’s past
This movie is a fun tribute to nostalgic fantasy. However, this is definitely NOT a biography based on true events and should not be considered as such. The film is very much for the fans, other viewers may find it successful or not, and most likely Google said later.
